About FBC Plaistow

First Baptist Church, Plaistow, was founded in 1836 by seventeen members from the First Baptist Church of Haverhill, MA. We are a generational church with many of our members having ancestral heritage in the church. We are a congregation of many denominational backgrounds. Our congregation consists of a comfortable blend from conservative to liberal, who work well together. We have been intentionally inclusive in our worship style with an open communion, inviting all to share. We accept members through immersion and profession of faith, by satisfactory letter of transfer from another Christian church, or under unusual circumstances through a statement of faith.

Our Purpose and Principles

The purpose of this congregation is to worship God, teach the truth of the Christian faith, provide fellowship and support, and minister to the needs of our local communities and beyond.

This congregation subscribes to the following general Baptist principles:

  • The New Testament is the primary authority in matters of faith and practice. Secondary authorities are tradition and expediency.
  • All believers are free to offer themselves to God on behalf of others, and to others on behalf of God.
  • Baptism is reserved for those exercising faith in Jesus Christ and the mode is by immersion.
  • The Lord’s Supper is an ordinance to be observed regularly. Salvation is by grace alone.
  • The local congregation is autonomous and democratic in its organization.
  • Worldwide missions are a continual obligation.
  • The Church and State are separate in authority and function.
